Description:

The winter that preceded the 2005 harvest was extremely cold and dry, leaving water reserves severely reduced after an equally dry and hot 2004.
Due to cold weather and water shortages, the growing season started later than usual. The entire growing season was marked by reduced vigor and smaller berry size, in all varieties.
From May 16th to September 6th there was almost no rain. However, despite the extreme heat and drought-like conditions, the ripening process continued normally, albeit at a slower pace than normal. Fortunately, the dry summer conditions were mitigated by the constant rainfall that fell between the 6th and 9th of September, giving the vines the relief they so desperately needed, allowing them to complete the maturation process and produce a perfectly ripe and balanced harvest.

Tasting Note:
Black ink color with narrow purple halo. The nose builds on a robust foundation of rich and powerful aromas of black currant, cherry and blackberry, intertwined with notes of apricot and plum. Touches of cedar wood, rockrose and violet give an exotic and fragrant dimension to the set, the hallmark of Vargellas vintage Port wines. On the palate, the first impression is restrained and smooth, but the finish reveals a tight weave made of vigorous tannins that raises a powerful wave of rich black fruit flavors.

A deep/opaque black hue. Very pure and well-defined nose of black cherries, cassis and plum, which has a certain “coldness”. The palate is full-bodied, but for me it just lacks a little definition and tension. But very pure again with notes of plum, licorice, a touch of black pepper and a somewhat fleshy and smooth finish. Very good. Drink 2015-2030.
